Exclusive clip: 'Star Wars' inspired bionic arm

After Luke Skywalker’s arm gets light-sabered off in Star Wars, he gets a pretty awesome new bionic arm. Of course, that fresh limb is the work of the creative George Lucas and movie magic… but it did inspire a real prosthetic.
In an exclusive clip from Science Channel show Raiders, Raptors and Rebels: Behind the Magic of ILM, we learn this tidbit:
An actual bionic arm– the DEKA arm, which uses electrical pulses of leftover arm muscles– was actually nicknamed “the Luke,” because its creators were so inspired by Star Wars.
Behind the Magic of ILM, which features George Lucas, also shows how life-saving plastic surgery was inspired by The Hulk. The show airs Sunday, July 19 at 10PM ET/PT.

In Science Channel show 'Raiders, Raptors and Rebels: Behind the Magic of ILM '(Sunday, July 19 at 10PM ET/PT), George Lucas and others show how science fiction has become, well, scientific fact.
